Grader

As a Grader you will be responsible for the correction of the score sheets for each event.  It is very important that you pay close attention to every letter and number while correcting as any mistake made can determine the difference between first, second, and third place.

 

Problem Solving: Grower/Judge

The Problem Solving event is designed to test the participant�s ability to properly diagnose and solve  real world field complaints.  On Wednesday afternoon, a judge and complaining grower pair will be assigned to one field problem to handle during the contest.  It is very important the grower act and react the same way for each contestant, all day!  As proctors of this event, it will be your responsibility to insure all plots remain in representative condition throughout the entire contest. While this is the most requested event (by the volunteers), it is also the most difficult to conduct and grade consistently, be prepared for a long day!

 

Sprayer Calibration: Applied & Written

For the Sprayer Calibration: Applied test, your responsibility is to monitor time and conduct the final sprayer examination during the event.  During one round you will administer the Sprayer Calibration: Applied test twice.  The maximum time allowed for the Sprayer Calibration: Applied test is 25 minutes.  Ten minutes is allotted to complete the judging and scoring on a team.  Five minutes will be provided to prepare the test materials for the next team. Teams will rotate between the Sprayer Calibration: Written and the Sprayer Calibration: Applied tests.  To remove possible calculation discrepancies, calculators and stop watches  will be provided.  Graduated cylinders, beakers, Spraying Systems Co. catalog, and packets of sprayer parts will also be provided.

As part of the Sprayer Calibration: Written you will be responsible for proctoring the written portion of the Sprayer Calibration event.  Each round will last 1 hour and 30 minutes.  During one round you will administer the Sprayer Calibration: Written and the Sprayer Calibration: Applied test.  To remove possible calculation discrepancies, calculators will be provided.

 

Team Leader

As a Team Leader you will be responsible for the prompt movement of your group from one contest area to the next.  Contestants will not be allowed to talk amongst themselves about any aspect of the contest before, during or after completion of any round.

 

Unknown Herbicide Identification

The Unknown Herbicide Identification event is designed to test the participant�s ability to recognize a herbicide�s characteristic symptomology on a variety of weed and crop species.  One-X and 2-X rates will be applied side by side for comparison.  As proctors of this event, it will be your responsibility to insure all plots remain in representative condition throughout the entire contest.  Students may enter the plot areas and may examine a �reasonable� number of plants, roots and plots. 

 

Weed Identification

The seedling weeds will be grown in containers for the contest.  As proctors of the Weed Identification event it will be your responsibility to insure that plant conditions remain uniform throughout the day. Contestants will not be permitted to destroy the weed samples in the identification process. The plots will need to be replaced as needed.
